Leather furniture is incredibly popular so though it might be a little pricier it is definitely a worthy investment piece to have in your life. A large contributing factor to the benefits of leather furnishing is its durability – meaning it is easy to maintain throughout the years as it is resistant to spills and can be easily cleaned.

Here is our quick guide on how to efficiently clean your leather furniture, to preserve and prolong their best possible state.

Your Supplies:

  1. Water
  2. Soap – mild/neutral PH non detergent liquid soap (Dettol/Dove) OR specialised leather cleaner (Saddle soap)
  3. Cloths (cotton/microfiber)
  4. Leather condition

The Process:

To combat any mild stains or spillage on your furniture. Take a damp cotton washcloth and dip it in the solution (warm soapy water/ specialised leather cleaner)

Once the area has been cleaned be sure to delicately dry the leather immediately with a dry microfiber cloth to prevent any mildew or mold from growing.

Aftercare:

Don’t forget leather furnishings are meant to look lived in and aged.

That being said, to keep the leather soft and flexible, applying a leather conditioner after your regular cleaning session will do just the trick. It helps your furniture maintain the natural oils within them.

Apply the conditioner onto the material with a clean cloth and just let it sink in and wait for it to be absorbed.

As Singapore’s climate is humid by nature, it is not necessary to constantly apply this conditioner as the atmosphere is naturally moist. Applying the conditioner once every six to 12 months should do. A quick reminder to double check the care label on your furniture before applying anything onto it.
